The Biogas production project consists of reinforcing sustainable principles the company is attempting to instill and disseminate in the community of the Zona de los Santos by means of utilizing liquid organic waste such as cattle, pig, chicken, goat and horse excrement, organic waste and food waste. The implementation of this type of project arises to substitute a need in the Zona de los Santos, due to the fact that no adequate liquid-organic waste management plan exists. The main objective is to give an added value to these types of wastes from different activities (agricultural, industrial, and domestic). These wastes will be used as organic matter that undergoes a biodigestion process for the production of methane gas, which will be used in homes for cooking and lighting. Thanks to the installation of a biodigestor, a rural family can improve their wellbeing due to the fact that they won’t have to deforest or spend time collecting wood or money for gas cylinders. The benefits of a family-sized polythene biodigestor that functions daily with 40 kilograms of fresh excrement (which can be produced by two cows, three horses or eight piglets that are permanently confined) and 200 liters of clean water, has the capacity to produce enough biogas to generate 14 hours of electricity per day. When this amount is produced, propane gas derived from petroleum can be substituted for biogas. The cooperative has trained professionals in this field for a diagnoses and an appropriate design according to the needs of each producer. |
