Coffee cultivation historically has been the main activity in the Zona de los Santos, and therefore, it’s also the largest source of income. This is true for families in the cultivation business, as well as people who work during the harvest collecting and processing until a final product is achieved. Its for this reason that coffee activity became the main source of income for the town, thanks to large, medium and above all, small coffee producers. The coffee and industrialization processes produce large amounts of solid and liquid waste; if they are not controlled, they could be a possible threat to the environment and public health. It’s because of this that Coopedota has investigated during the past 4 years the reutilization of residual water for the production of ethanol by means of fermenting the sugars present in the waters. The following diagram describes the process:
This project has great potential because the fermentable raw materials are product of the coffee process, which doesn’t compete with fertilizers, soil, and crops destined for human and animal consumption. As the project is implemented, it is intended to reimburse with no additional cost the alcohol to the producers for their use in vehicles and at the same time decrease the production costs of transporting coffee fruit.

Les felicito por tan importante trabajo que realizan.
Este proyecto me ha interesado mucho, y me gustarìa saber màs sobre el proceso, o diseño del mismo, si fuera posible.
pues trabajo con un pequeño productor de cafè y me parece que se asociarà con otros màs y desean conocer sobre el tema. y estaban pensando instalar biodigestores, por lo que me gustaria conocer su opinion..
