Since Coopedota was born, it has been expanded and modernized in all respects. Apart from the wet mill, other departments, such as Technical Assistance, were created to improve the quality of coffee. For instance, the engineers are responsible for advising the producers in terms of waste management, controlled shade and adequate use of fertilizers. Coopedota has also seen the need to educate consumers on how to drink quality coffee, which is why the School of Barismo has been created. It was implemented when the Roaster began to operate, with the aim of promoting the roasted coffee of Dota. The Micro-Lot project was created with the intention of encouraging producers to only deliver excellent quality coffee. This coffee is processed apart from the everyday deliveries, and has been experiencing different variables in the wet-milling to produce different flavors. These exotic coffees are highly desired by the international market, and some lots were awarded this year in the Cup of Excellence, and then auctioned globally with coffees from every latitude of our world. In 2007, Coopedota applied for the Ecological Flag certification, so that the cooperative would be assessed and then proven that it complies with all obligations under environmental laws, occupational health and sanitation; but above all to show that its activities are oriented to the future establishment of an Environmental Management System based on the parameters set by the National Commission for the Ecological Flag. Some of the parameters are:
At the conclusion of the assessment, the cooperative received the awards White Flag and Blue Flag; by the year 2009 it will be participating in the VI Class program called Blue Flag eco Actions to Fight Climate Change. Finally, Coopedota was awarded the Coffee Merit Medal in 2001; this distinction is awarded every year in the National Coffee Congress by ICAFE to businesses or the general public for their contributions to the coffee sector in research, improvements in systems and crops. |
